How To Be a Good Neighbor

It doesn’t take too much effort to be a good neighbor, and taking the time to be on good terms with the neighborhood is best for everyone there. Here are a few ways that can help you be a good neighbor:

  1. Greet your Neighbors:
Two easy words, ‘good morning” or “good evening” can go a long way! Whether you are meeting in the elevator, the hallway, or even the parking garage, greeting your neighbor is never a bad thing!
  2. Strike Up a Conversation:
Similar interest? See them every day in the gym? Or walking your dog? Why not strike up a conversation? Keep the topics safe (nothing controversial) and brief, to make the conversation as pleasant as possible.
  3. Offer to Help:

If you see your neighbor struggling with fixing a flat tire, or even with a bunch of grocery bags, it is always a good idea to offer to help. This way, you’ll always be remembered as the helpful neighbor.
  4. Keep your Garden/Garage Clean:

For those who are living in a compound or have shared gardens, etc.… make sure that your area is clean and tidy. Not only are you being a good neighbor, but it is, at the end of the day, common courtesy.
  5. Respect the Rules of the Community:

Shared facilities such as pools, gyms and common rooms always have rules. Make sure you respect those rules whenever you use shared facilities. This also applies to cleaning up after your pets too.
  6. Keep the Noise Down:
Having a party or get-together? Make sure you are aware of your neighbors, especially if they have young kids who go to bed early. If you feel like things might get a little extra loud, slip them a note the day before, to warn them.

Remember, the key to having good neighbors is being a good one yourself!
