How to Save Water and Electricity at Home

Saving water and electricity at your home is easier than you think. In recent years, conserving energy has been on the rise; not only will you be doing you part to help the environment, but it will also help you cut back on your utility bills. Here are a few ways you can save water and electricity at your home

Use natural lighting:

Not only does natural lightning better for you, but it will also air out your house. Instead of closing the curtains and switching on all types of lights, try leaving the lights off during the day and embracing the sun’s rays in the rooms you’re using. Try and find a light colored curtain for your window which will give you privacy and allow light to enter the room as well.

Unplug Appliances:
You may think that they’re off, but electrical appliances will still use electricity as long as they are plugged in. Make it a habit to unplug all unused appliances, as this will save on energy in the long run.

Use LED Light Bulbs:
Ensure that all light bulbs at home are LED; yes, they are a little more expensive than CFLS (compact fluorescent light bulbs) but they are more efficient. They last longer and do not contain mercury.

Save Water:

This is an easy on – close the tap when shaving, brushing your teeth, washing your face, etc.… You won’t believe how much water is wasted when you leave that tap on! Also, opt for showers and not baths; filling your bath tub uses up four times the amount of water than a shower.

Use your Appliances Wisely:
Only was full loads of laundry, and use a full dishwasher. This will help in saving both water and electricity, and will also keep your appliances running at optimum level.

Control Your Air Conditioner:
Set your AC temperature to 24 degrees Celsius. Each degree less than that will use up a lot more energy which will add up the riyals!

Set Your Refrigerate Temperature:
Use your refrigerator efficiently by keeping them at their best temperatures. Fridges should be set between 2°C and 3°C, while your freezer should be set at -18°C.

Designate Night Rooms for The Family:
This could be a tricky one, but gathering the family into one or two rooms in the evening will save a lot on lights, air conditioners, TVs, etc.… plus, it’ll help with family time!

Choose Energy Star Appliances:

If you’re looking to buy a new appliance or replace one, make sure you check Energy Star appliances. They save energy through advanced technologies and will surely add to a lower utility bill.
