For those lucky enough to be planning a winter break from Bahrain this festive season, here are few suggestions for short, medium and long-haul trips that you can take, depending on the length of your holiday and your time off.
Short Haul: (3 hours and less):
There is something for everyone in Oman! Whether you are looking to relax or explore, Muscat, Salalah or Jabal Akhdar are all options that you can consider for a winter getaway.
2. Baku, Azerbaijan:
If you are looking for a true winter experience, then Baku should be on your radar. Perfect for anyone who wants to sightsee and discover the historical spots of the country.
One of the most visited countries during the winter time, Dubai is only a short flight away and offers just about everything a traveler could want. Shopping, a busy nightlife and a range of markets and activities are all in offer in the UAE.
Medium Haul: (3- 6 hours):
Beirut, the beautiful capital of Lebanon is usually the most visited city in the country. But Lebanon has a lot more to offer, from delicious food, great shopping and a busy nightlight. Faraya is also a great location for skiing and hitting the slopes during the winter time.
Cyprus is only a few hours away, and offers history, sightseeing and amazing food. Visitors can enjoy both the great night life it offers, as well as a number of historic expeditions as well.
3. Sri Lanka:
The weather in Sri Lanka is perfect for a December visit, especially in the southern areas of the country. Those looking for a beach getaway will find all they’re asking for in this tropical country.
Another great beach getaway is the Maldives, which is known for being a great relaxing spot. Over -water resorts are plenty in Maldives, and are a great setting to ring in the new year!
Long Haul: (6+ hours):

The start of summer in south Africa, December is a great time to visit Cape Town offers. Picturesque beaches, historical sites, and sightseeing excursions are all on offer in Cape Town, as well as exciting safari excursions.
Voted as the Best City in Europe in 2017, Vienna will be a beautiful backdrop for the festive season, and will be a perfect winter getaway. If you can handle the cold weather, you’ll enjoy beautiful sites, markets and historical expeditions.
The temperatures in Lisbon are moderately cold, and here, you can experience the markets, enjoy delicious food, and dive into the history of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.
4. New York:
There’s something about winter in the big apple! Time Square, Central Park and Radio City Music Hall are great locations to ring in the New Year!
