Spotlight: The Bahrain International Circuit

What is it?
The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is a modern and high-tech motorsport facility, located in the heart of the Sakhir desert. As an ode to the local culture, German designer Hermann Tilke made sure to incorporate aspects of Bahrain heritage when he created the design of the structure.

What about the tracks?
There are five FIA certified tracks at the Bahrain International Circuit, which is the highest in the world and allows the venue to host a number of different motor racing events. The 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix Track regularly hosts international races, including the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, the FIA World Endurance Championship Six Hours of Bahrain, races in the GP2 Series and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

What about night time?
A few years ago, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Bahrain International Circuit introduced an advanced floodlight system, which enabled it to host, for the first time, the Bahrain Grand Prix being held at night.

What about the Bahrain Grand Prix?
The most popular event to take place at the Bahrain International Circuit, this is a Formula One Championship race. The first race took place in April 2004 and made history as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East.

Anything else?
Plenty! The Bahrain International Circuit is also known for hosting other events, not related to motorsports, including the Bahrain International Air Show and Challenge Bahrain triathlon. Its flexibility as a venue also makes it a well-liked location for corporate events and social occasions.
